What do you write on a barat card from the groom's side?

Bismillah at the top, then the groom's parents inviting guests to the barat of their son, the bride's name with her father's name, the day and date, when and where the baraat leaves, the hall, and one name to reply to. The full wording in English, Roman Urdu and Urdu is above, ready to copy.

What is the difference between a barat card from the bride's side and the groom's side?

The groom's side invites guests to go with the baraat, so it gives the time and place it leaves from. The bride's side invites guests to receive the baraat, so it gives the time it arrives, the nikah and the dinner, and it often calls the day the rukhsati.

Is it barat or baraat?

Both spellings are used in Pakistan and India for the same thing: the groom's procession to the wedding. Write it whichever way your family does.

Can I show the baraat time differently to different guests?

Each function has one time, but you can make personal links that show only some functions. Many families invite close relatives to the baraat and everyone to the walima.

Can I change the card after sending it?

Yes. If the venue changes or the mehndi moves to a later time, edit it and the same link shows the new details. Nobody needs to be sent a new card.

Do guests need to download anything?

No. Your card is a web page. Guests tap the link in WhatsApp and it opens in their phone's browser, with nothing to install and no account to make. It works the same for an elderly relative in Multan and a cousin in Toronto.

Everything about the baraat on one page

On the Eastern template each function has its own card on the schedule: the day, the time, the place, a short note, the seating and the dress colours. For the baraat that might read: "The baraat arrives at five and the nikah follows. Dinner after." Guests tap the place and it opens in Google Maps.

The groom's family sends a barat card to ask people to come with the baraat. The bride's family sends one to ask people to be there when it arrives. So the two cards differ in a few lines:

Groom's side: "our son Hamza" comes first, with the time and place the baraat leaves from
Bride's side: "our daughter Ayesha" comes first, often as the rukhsati, with the time the baraat arrives, the nikah and dinner
Both: Bismillah at the top, the other family's name under the couple, the day and date, the hall with its area and city, and who to tell if you're coming

Small things that save a lot of phone calls

Give the real time. If the baraat leaves at 6:30, write 6:30, not "after Maghrib" and not a time everyone knows to ignore. Write the hall's area and city as well as its name, because there are three Qasr-e-Noors in every city. And put one name and number for replies, so people don't ask four different uncles.

Know how many are coming with the baraat

The groom's family often has to tell the bride's family how many people are coming with the baraat. With RSVP on the card, each family replies with a number, and you can read the total in your guest list instead of collecting it by phone.
